PUP to probe reported gang rape of student
The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) said it has created a fact-finding committee to investigate reports of a gang rape of a student by 15 fellow students as part of an initiation into an underground fraternity.
The alleged gang rape “is a very unfortunate incident, though an isolated one,” the PUP said in a statement. The school said its officials are “grieved” about the incident and are cooperating with the police and the Department of Social Welfare and Development since minors are involved.
The school administration assured “all involved that they will be protected in accordance with the law. Legal assistance and financial assistance will likewise be provided to the alleged victim.”
The PUP said stricter security measures are being enforced in the campus and officials are closely coordinating with law enforcers.
