Y Sperm Make Boys There are two types of sex chromosomes: X and Y. One of each is contributed by each parent. Males have two distinct sex chromosomes: XY. Females have two of the same kind of sex chromosome: XX. Mother supplies only an X chromosome, while father can supply both types.
